New Websites, Forums, and a Ning

Let me explain to you what I am doing ~

1. I am recreating Effective Teaching Solutions. My goal is to turn it into a portal for several smaller, more focused websites for teachers. This will take some time, so everything still looks the same.

2. One of the new sites is Teaching eVentures. I bought the domain name and created a new site. Teaching eVentures is a portal to a forum, blog (the teaching articles which are fed into the site now), and a ning. I have plans for a social network, but I'm trying to work out the kinks with the application. The purpose of Teaching eVentures will be to create a professional and social network. You can visit the forum, blog, and ning now.

3. I've also bought a new domain named The Literacy Box. At the moment I have a new blog with articles and a forum. I am slowly working on moving all of my literacy files from Effective Teaching Solutions to The Literacy Box.

4. The other site I've opened up is The Wired Teacher. This site will focus on educational technology. I've opened two blogs (however, I'm considering combining them into one), and a forum that you can visit now. I'm working on the full website.
The Wired Teacher Blog
The Wired Teacher Web Author's Blog
The Wired Teacher Forum

5. I hope to have these sites up and running by summer with ETS acting as a portal to each one. I also have plans for a couple more sites, so stay tuned. In the meantime, continue to visit Effective Teaching Solutions, and join the forums and ning.

We created a great top teacher site list. We are working on refreshing our pages and adding a link on each page. Right now you can visit our Top 100 Teacher Sites and check it out. If you are a webmaster with a website for teachers you are invited to add your site. We are in the midst of adding some great new features that will be up and running soon - including comments and ratings boxes.

What's New at Teaching eVentures

Things are beginning to calm down here on the Gulf Coast. We are getting back into gear. We now offer a newsletter with teaching tips and website updates. We promise to not to hog your in-box or share your email address. It's free to sign up. Occassionally we will offer specials and freebies, so get in on the action.

ETS Press has now opened it's online doors. ETS Press publishes Digital Downloads for Teachers, practical resources you can read today and use tomorrow. New titles are coming soon. They will be announced in the Teaching eVentures newsletter.

Stop by and read our latest articles, or perhaps you would like to write an article for us. We are accepting article proposals now. Email us with your great ideas. We can only give you a cyber-high-five, but consider your articles as great publication credits and clips.

The holidays are upon us which gives us a few moments of free time to add some new goodies to the site, so stay tuned!

Moving Beyond Ike

Life is finally beginning to get back to normal after Hurricane Ike put a cramp in things. We've added new articles to our homepage. We use Blogger to post the articles and then feed them to our homepage. This helps us keep a natural archive and simplifies the process of getting the articles posted. We are always looking for new writers, so visit our site and see if you would like to contribute.

The Reading and Writing Workshop sections are coming along slowly, but surely. It takes a lot of time to post one new piece of information, but we persevere somewhere between teaching and family.

Please keep us bookmarked and keep checking in. We have some big plans for the future. We just need time (doesn't everyone?). Thanks for hanging in there with us. Please hit our "tell a friend" button and pass on our site to other educators. We believe we have a lot to offer, and plan to continue to add new content in the near future.

A Fresh New Look & Lots of New Content

Effective Teaching Solutions new makeover is finally complete. Phase 1 begins with a fresh new look and lots of new content. Phase 2 will be the continuation of new content. My goal is to udate the site at least once per week. Let me point out a few highlights. The navigation bar will take you to our Teach page. This page houses links to all of our curriculum resources. Please sign up and help us get our Forum up and running. I wanted to create a place for teachers to hang out and talk shop, or not. There are many forum topics for both "on school" and "off school" discussions. Join the Forums prior to September 20th and get a chance to win a quality, handcrafted beaded lanyard. Next you will see our Books link. This is a Amazon powered store. We worked hard to put together quality titles of children's books and professional resources. Please let us know if you would like a title you don't see listed. We would really appreciate it if you would click to Amazon through our site. It doesn't cost you anything, but it helps us to keep the site up and running. Our newest navigation bar link is our Ebooks section. We plan to add new titles in the future as we grow this section. The goal is to bring you quality resources and quick electronic delivery at reasonable prices. Come hang out in the Teacher's Lounge. As we find freebies, bargains, and more we will add them to the site. Pick up a free cookbook or check out the Inspirational Movies for Teachers and get your new school year off to a motivational start! Click on the Updates tab to return to this blog. Each time I update the site, I will let you know what's new through the Updates blog.

Scroll down the homepage to the Google Groups box. Join a professional group and get a discussion going today. Notice the articles on the homepage. Articles are now written in a blog format and sent to the site through an RSS feed. You can find archived articles on the Teaching eVentures blog.

Let's visit the Teach page and learn about the new content. There is content in every section. The Reading section has lists of quality picture books for teaching reading skills and strategies (we are working on adding more and more content to go with the picture books, so keep checking back), a Children's Literature Book Nook with reviews of great children's books, resources for Literature Circles, a list of websites with great Interactive Books for Children, a list of great Reading Teacher Websites, and great resources in our Reading Toolbox for Teachers.

Our Writing Studio brings you quality resources to assist you in teaching writing. Find a great children's book to teach a writing skill, pick up handouts, rubrics, writing frames and more.

We hope you will take the time to visit our other sections. You will find handouts, printables, classroom activities, website links, literature lists, Teaching Point Slideshows (PowerPoint), and so much more. We have fun kid pages and kid friendly research pages we've dubbed Esearch. You don't want to miss our Back to School section. We added a great list of first day greetings and great printables.

The website is a work in progress. We want to continue to bring you great resources. Help us spread the word by clicking on the Tell a Friend button on virtually any page on the site. You can also subscribe to the site by clicking on the bookmark button. If you have a teacher friendly commercial site please consider taking one of our Top Spots and get the word out about your site today. All of these tools can be found on the left hand side of almost every page on the website.

Tune in again for more content and updates. May your 2008-2009 school year be the best year yet!

Effective Teaching Solutions becomes Teaching eVentures

I am working on a fresh new look, and with a new look comes a new name. You can still find the site as www.effectiveteachingsolutions.com. Eventually I will reroute the url. I am trying to streamline the site to make it better to maintain and surf. Please bare with me as I make updates and changes.

All articles will be posted on my Teaching eVentures blog. I plan to paste the past articles onto the blog for archiving. This makes things easier to upload and maintain, as well as creates a natural archive. The articles will be fed onto the homepage of the site.

Please visit my forums, register, and get the conversation going. It's kind of empty right now, so invite your teacher friends in for some professional, online collaboration. Visit the site to sign up for Google Discussion Groups and to get your name on the list for my Effective Teaching Ezine (to be published in the near future).
